University of Michigan graduate Meghan Cuneo, 24, has tried many of the popular smartphone dating apps, but she hasn't been thrilled with the selection, the attitudes and all that swiping right. I just did not like the conversations you're having because it all insinuates a one-night stand, hookup kind of thing.
That is why Cuneo is looking forward to Nov. Launched two years ago and already in 21 cities, The League is an invite-only service that offers the professional-class elite an opportunity to avoid the masses as they find each other.

The app has a notoriously tough admissions process for applicants to be allowed to cross the digital velvet rope and its dating pool. The criteria is heavily weighted on professional credentials: job titles, career field, and where one went to college or graduate school.
Applicants must share their LinkedIn profiles and submit six photographs as well as a personal bio. The League then uses an algorithm to give applications a first pass.
But final approvals are made by humans, the company said. Detroit will start with an initial hand-selected dating pool of people, spread across a mile radius. The League, which is based in San Francisco, says it chose these men and women from a total of 2, applicants. There is already a waiting list to The League in Detroit. Davis said this line — about 2, people long — is relatively short compared to places like New York City, where applicants might wait two or three months to get in. Cuneo, who works as a program associate at a Detroit nonprofit and made the Founding cut, said she'd heard her college friends who moved to bigger cities after graduation rave about the quality of the app's dating pools.
I do get that vibe that it seems elitist. But I kind of view it as a networking club where you have to have graduated from college to get in. The League has been called "Tinder for the elites" and criticized for being overly exclusive and contributing to the societal phenomenon where people with the most credentials and university degrees increasingly marry each other. But Davis says The League's admissions process isn't that different from the filters that people regularly use on their own when planning different aspects of their lives.

The League plans to expand its Detroit dating pool beyond after about two weeks.
