Authorities are investigating the death of a man whose body was found on one side of a Detroit duplex while another man who lived on the other side of the home is in jail, charged in the kidnapping of a 5-year-old girl, who is safe and now in foster care. Detroit police officials recounted Wednesday how the girl was rescued — a combination of the girl having her wits about her, concerned neighbors showing courage and some police work — on June Authorities offered few details to clear it up, declining to identify the dead man, give a motive for the kidnapping and death, or say what may have led to finding the body and girl at the home on the block of Schaefer Highway.
Dangelo Clemons, 30, of Detroit, was arraigned July 3charged with kidnapping and child enticement. He is accused of abducting the child from her home and holding her in his, on the other side of the duplex.

Authorities said the prosecutor's office may be bringing more charges soon, but offered no hints about what the charges would be or who the suspects are. Police would not say whether they suspected Clemons of other crimes. The detective praised the 5-year-old for crying out for help, and when police pulled her out of the house, she told an officer that she wanted to become "a policeman" when she grows up.
WDIV-TV reported that the girl's mother was dead, the body of the man in the home was her father and the girl is in Texas with her grandmother. Police, however, said the girl was safe, but not in Texas, and would not say what had happened to the girl's parents. Kraszewski said the neighbors — who attempted to rescue her by knocking on the door, which was slammed on their face, and then called the police — are the "true heroes" of this story.

Officers, he said, were called to the Detroit neighborhood at about p. Residents flagged the officers down as they neared the house and directed them to it.
The girl, they told police, was at a window calling for help. The residents told the officers that the girl lived on the other side of the duplex, so they checked that residence.
When they opened the door, they found a dead man on the floor. Then, they went back to the other side of the duplex, forced their way into the other home, detained Clemons, brought the young girl out of the house and took her to Children's Hospital to be evaluated.
